Part Two: Choosing Peace Over “Justice”
Here’s the hardest truth I had to face: once you enter the family court system, the system isn’t there to protect the “unmoneyed” spouse.
The filings never end. The high-conflict ex doesn’t stop. The court orders don’t get followed. And what’s left? A financial drain that can break you if you let it.
It took me years to realize I had to stop fighting to “make it right.” Because it won’t be made right. Not in court. Not by someone who refuses to honor agreements.
I still pay in installments for medical bills that were his responsibility. My children carry school loans because he claimed poverty and forced a court action to shift the burden onto them—even though I gave up alimony and our family business with the agreement that he would pay for their education.
And when college came, the 529 plans were gone. He had taken control and used them for his own tuition portion.
This is the reality of financial abuse:

They will not follow the order.

They will not stop believing it is all theirs.

They will not change.
The Real Power Shift
The only thing left to choose is peace.
Peace over fairness.
Peace over chasing “justice.”
Peace over trying to force someone else to do the right thing.
Because the deeper truth is: you can’t heal while clinging to a fight that will never end.
What you can do is shift your perspective.
What you can do is build your own foundation of strength.
What you can do is claim your worth and walk forward knowing you are whole.
YOU ARE EQUAL.
YOU ARE WORTHY.
YOU DESERVE PEACE.
When you choose peace, as difficult as it is in a given moment, you reclaim your life. You untangle yourself from the lies, the control, and the endless cycle of abuse. You step into your healing, your wholeness, and your future.
And that, more than any court order, is your true justice.
