Getting Off the Fear Bus

The mental mind-chatter bus is absolutely chock full of fear right now. So, speaking of dusting off self-care techniques from your toolbox, I have another one to share. (Visit my Sparkle Up Blog for more!)

Although I haven’t ridden that mind-chatter bus in a while, I find myself climbing aboard again lately. The fear talk is loud—everywhere—and relentless. To help myself step off, I use a simple visualization: I pull the cord on the bus and tell the driver I want off.

Maybe that image feels dated to some of you—the string you pull to signal your upcoming stop—but it works for me. I picture myself pulling that cord, stepping off the bus, and watching the fear drive away without me.

Because I do have a choice. We all do.

I can pause and ask: Why am I feeling fearful in this moment?
And then remind myself that feelings are part of the human experience—but they are not our story.

They are indicators.

Name it: This is fear.
Ask: What do I need right now?
Offer yourself a moment of self-acknowledging love.

Or simply say:
That’s an old story—and I feel those feelings.

How could we not feel fearful right now? We are being bombarded with manipulative fear, and even the most grounded among us can feel the waves. That doesn’t mean we have to stay on the bus.

There is more good than terribleness, even when it’s hard to see.
And I hold hope—for peace, for steadiness, and for all of us finding our way back to ourselves.
