We are in the middle of a huge blizzard. Eversource warned of monumental outages and said to expect numerous days without power.
The wind gusts are so strong they’re blowing the caulk right out of the door jamb. It’s the kind you smush into the crack—like clay or putty—but it keeps getting pushed out by the wind.
I would love it if the electricity came back on. I could handle the wind and snow gusts, but it’s 4:27 p.m. now and getting dark. The storm suddenly feels different.
As a solo storm rider, I filled five buckets with water in the bathtub so I can flush the toilet. The water in the refrigerator is getting warm, and I’m starting to feel concerned. My little radio is charged, my work and home computers are fully charged, and both my big industrial flashlight and little touch light are ready.
This isn’t my first solo blizzard. There have been a few, and many winter storms when my children were younger. But perhaps it’s my age now, or simply tiredness, a loss of stamina… I’m not sure.
This kind of storm is draining on the senses. I can’t help but wonder if this angry winter wind is somehow connected to the swirling energy in the world right now. All the toxic underbelly disclosures, the chaos, the emotional storms. As a somewhat conspiratorial thinker, I find myself wondering—could it be man-made to keep fear levels high? Or is it simply Mother Nature saying, enough?
Collectively, we are often shown only what others want us to see. It’s easy to believe someone, somewhere, is sorting everything out for the good of all—but I’m not so sure. Much of what we experience feels like conditioning, a slow acclimation to a messy reality.
And yet, I also believe something else is happening.
More and more of us are becoming heart-centered. More people are waking up in profound ways, outnumbering the old patterns of control, division, and disconnection from the soul.
As it grows colder and darker inside my peaceful home, I quietly repeat the walking monk’s daily affirmation:
“This is my peaceful day.”
