How to Release What Isn’t Yours

Do you ever find yourself carrying emotions that don’t truly belong to you—guilt, anger, worry, or upset—without knowing why?

Sometimes awareness begins with a simple realization: the emotions (or even the physical sensations connected to them) may not originate with you at all.

I wrote about this idea a while ago, and it continues to resonate deeply:

You’re in the middle of your day… a sunshine-filled, everything-feels-right kind of day. Suddenly, it’s as if a dark cloud rolls in and your feelings become jumbled. I often use the analogy of black pants and a white cat. Have you ever worn a dark outfit, interacted with a cat, and later realized you’re completely covered in white fur?

We move through the world brushing up against people, places, and experiences—and sometimes we pick up energy that isn’t ours to carry.

If this is a new concept for you, I’d love to offer a gentle visualization to complement the download from Is This Yours? Creating Your Energy Hygiene Practice.

A Simple Visualization to Release What Isn’t Yours

✨ Imagine placing the heaviness you’re carrying into a small container. If you’re deeply spiritual, you might picture an angel bag—soft velvet with a gold tassel.
✨ Close the lid or tie it securely.
✨ Gently set the container outside your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual body.
✨ Now imagine a brilliant white light surrounding the box, bag, or container. Take a few slow breaths—inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth—releasing these burdens into the divine light of oneness.

You don’t have to carry what isn’t yours. This small shift alone can noticeably lighten your day.

Think of this as another tool for your well-being toolbox—one that builds self-awareness and supports an ongoing cycle of clearing and renewal.

Our invisible energy systems—both individual and collective—are moving toward greater oneness and unity consciousness. This process naturally carries both positive and challenging charges. Without judgment, awareness allows the heavier energy to be recycled through self-responsibility, compassion, and conscious clearing.

Gentle. Intentional. Empowering.
And a beautiful way to begin the new year. ✨
