What Helps Me? (Might Help You too.)
This series about fear waves came about because I was struggling with my usual go-to emotional energy hygiene practices—the daily strategies I rely on to stay grounded.
The typical, almost rote practices are okay… but lately they needed some up-charging.
So I started asking myself a simple, honest question:
What helps me?
I made a list:
Morning grounding
Before getting out of bed—feet on the floor, hand on my heart—I pray the Hail Mary. I whisper Thank you to the day. This has always helped, and now I’ve added something more:
Holding the vibrational rise
I wait for the inner feeling of vibrational rise—heart, mind, body, emotion, spirit—all moving into higher coherence. I stay there just a tiny bit longer, holding the moment. A wave comes, indicating to me that I’ve grounded in.
Shower cleansing
My daily shower isn’t just about the water bringing freshness. I ground in and imagine all the energy that is not for my highest and best being swept down the drain and into the system for recycling.
Morning journaling
I journal each and every morning, in the wee hours before the day breaks. I’ve been journaling the following I AM statements for months now, and I rely on these powerful words as fuel:
I am love.
I am peace.
I am joy.
I am free.
I am will.
I am light embodied.
I am monad in consciousness.
This reminds me of my trueness—and everyone else’s, too.
Coffee & gratitude
I have my frothy coffee each and every day. Sometimes I sip it while journaling; sometimes I sit in the calm quiet of the morning, feeling the warmth of my cup, and make a mental list of gratitude—overriding the fear waves with a focus on all my blessings.
Thanking my body
Sometimes I sit in stillness and thank my body for all it does each and every day:
Thank you, hands.
Thank you, feet.
Thank you, mouth.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Relaxation & awareness
And of course, the relaxation response—which I’ve written about before—acknowledging the fear waves, staying aware of what I feel and what I need, versus the old story I default to.
I smudge daily, sometimes more than once.
Smudging is traditionally an act of purifying or cleansing negative energy—from a person, a space, or even someone else. Lately, I’ve been relying more on Palo Santo wood, though I still use sage. You light it and set the intention to clear lower vibrations. (It might feel like there isn’t enough sage or wood to clear all the fear waves—but even a little goes a long way!)
We are all seeing clearly now—the ugliest of the ugly underbelly.
But we knew.
We said it before. And it is changing.
