When you hear the words emotional reserve, what image comes to mind?
Is it a deep well filled with clear water?
A stack of colors representing your different emotional states?
Or maybe… nothing at all?
Having no emotional reserve can describe two different states:
Availability: a lack of emotional availability — when someone avoids expressing feelings, or a state of emotional exhaustion — when you’re simply too drained to feel or respond emotionally.
Unavailability: emotional unavailability can be more of a personality pattern, while emotional exhaustion is often the result of prolonged stress.
Either way, both can lead to challenges in relationships and affect your overall sense of well-being.
You may even feel as if you’re ping-ponging between the two — depleted and too tired to respond, yet still absorbing more than you can hold.
These days, it’s easy to reach that point. The constant stream of news, social unrest, and the lack of compassion we see online can stir deep emotions and stress. Even just scrolling social media or turning on the TV can deplete your energy reserves.
So, what can you do to refill your well?
Ways to Replenish Your Emotional Energy
- Nourish yourself well.
When you’re run down, eating might be the last thing you feel like doing—or you may find yourself overindulging. Gently remind yourself that a balanced, green-rich diet is healing for your whole system.
- Limit what you consume—digitally, too.
Be mindful of what you’re taking in. The news cycle is rarely “new” anymore—it’s often just more stories of suffering. These narratives can activate fear and anxiety, keeping you focused on the worst instead of recognizing the good around you. Try a short social media detox, especially when you wake up or before bed.
- Move your body.
Aim for about 150 minutes of moderate movement each week. Exercise isn’t about punishment—it’s about adding to your energy account, not subtracting from it.
- Refocus your thoughts.
Notice unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with balanced ones. Find small moments of joy: cook a nourishing meal, listen to your favorite song, or step outside and breathe. Ask yourself, what matters most to me right now? Then put your energy there.
Mantra for November.
You can write the mantra in your journal or say it out loud.
I am love.
I am love.
I am love.
We are love.
We are love.
We are love.
Let these simple words of truth refill your reserves—one breath, one heartbeat, one kind thought at a time.
Quote of the Month
