The 7 Best Soul-Nourishing Self-Care Rituals to Try

The 7 Best Soul-Nourishing Self-Care Rituals to Try

I’m all about doable soul-nourishing self-care rituals. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know my go-to daily self-nurturing item: my trusty $14.99 milk frother. Warming milk for my coffee in the quiet, still morning, followed by journaling and meditation, makes me feel like the queen of my inner world.

So, how can you incorporate daily soul-nurturing moments into your day with ease and grace, transforming your energy into healing rituals? Here are seven of my favorite ways to make self-care effortless yet deeply meaningful.

1. Take a Warm or Cold Shower (or Bath)

This might sound simple, but here’s the twist: elevate the experience. Inspired by my twenty-something daughter, who knows all things beauty, I’ve discovered the power of one indulgent item to turn a mundane shower into a sacred ritual.

Find that one special lotion, shampoo, or hair mask to make your routine feel luxurious. You don’t have to splurge—try your local Dollar Tree! For instance, I picked up a lavender name-brand Epsom salt, sprinkled it into my shower, and let the steam transform the experience into a moment of indulgence. I take a moment to hold my body in reverence and gratitude.

Feeling brave? End your shower with a burst of cold water. This invigorating ritual wakes up your senses, gets your blood flowing, and gives your skin a natural glow. Trust me—it’s a game-changer!

2. Get Dressed for You

This might sound unconventional, but hear me out. Choose one item of clothing or an accessory that brings you joy. During a decade of challenges I lovingly call my “10 years in the trenches,” I’d wear something just for me—a non-mentionable, a crystal tucked into my bra, or a favorite shade of lipstick.

When I swipe on lipstick, I recite an affirmation: “I speak with joy and peace.” What makes you feel beautiful? Whether it’s a bold lipstick, a cozy sweater, or a pair of earrings, wear it for you.

3. Hug a Tree

Yes, literally. Grounding is powerful, and it doesn’t have to come only from your feet touching the earth. Wrap your arms around a tree, lay on the ground, or simply press your hands to its bark. Feel the connection. Nature’s energy is healing and free.

4. Spend Time Outdoors

Not a nature lover? That’s okay. Small outdoor moments can be just as impactful. When taking out the trash, linger a bit. Walk the long way to get your mail. Stand outside for a few extra minutes and take a few deep breaths. If planning an outdoor adventure feels overwhelming, these micro-moments can still reconnect you to the earth.

5. Doodle Like Nobody’s Watching

Channel your inner middle-schooler and let your pen dance across the page. Unconsciously draw or pick an object and sketch its details. My personal favorite? Blind contour drawing—keeping my eyes on the subject, not the paper.

Or try jourdoodling: combining journaling with doodling. Grab a set of colorful gel pens (my latest obsession is the Uni-ball Bold Metallic set!) and let your creativity flow. Whether it’s bullet points, stars, or little hearts, it’s about expressing yourself, not perfection.

6. Move Your Body

Movement doesn’t have to be a chore. While I have a love-hate relationship with my step tracker, I’ve learned to find joy in movement. Whether it’s stepping outside to hug a tree, taking a short walk, or sneaking in yoga poses like downward dog or tree pose during the day, movement is vital for overall wellness.

7. Journal Your Heart Out

Journaling is my daily go-to for reflection and release. Writing with colorful pens helps me stay present and brings a sense of joy, almost like my younger self doodling hearts in the margins. (I just picked up these gel impact pens! loving them!)

If journaling feels intimidating, start small. Write a gratitude list, reflect on your day, or simply free-write whatever comes to mind. The goal isn’t to create a masterpiece—it’s to connect with yourself.
